According to 1000+ telephone surveys by Colorado-based Harstad Strategic Research in January (released by Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP).) Massage therapy is continuing on a twenty year trend-
* Over 33.6 million adults in America received at least one massage in 2006 (up 9 million from 2004)
* The three primary reasons people seek massages are very basic- relaxation and stress reduction, relief of pain and soreness, or as a simple gift.
* People *love* massage: ninety-four percent express favorable feelings about massage experiences, with 69 percent express very favorable feelings.
If you ask the average person what massage is, they usually reply that it is simply rubbing a few muscles or relaxing a sore back. While basic massage includes those elements, real massage goes many steps deeper. It takes your mind, your spirit, your heart, and your body and puts it in one place. A place of balance.
Massage is a very broad scope of personal treatment. Whether or not you have something seriously wrong, there are hundreds of things massage can help with:
* allergies
* anxiety
* arthritis
* asthma & bronchitis
* carpal tunnel syndrome
* chronic & temporary pain
* circulatory problems
* depression
* digestive disorders
* headache, especially due to tension
* insomnia
* myofascial pain (where the muscles connect)
* reduced range of motion
* sinusitis
* sports injuries
* stress
* TMJ (noise and/or pain in the jaw joint)
Those issues only cover a small range of physical ailments.
Emotionally and spiritually massage can help bring real balance to your life. If you realize that you spend more than eighty hours a week pulling your body off-kilter, it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that taking an hour every other week to put your body back into balance can be a great way to keep your life in top working condition. A good mental outlook begins with a healthy physical foundation, and when our lives are properly maintained our entire outlook becomes a positive one.
As more people discover the benefits and joy of massage, we find ourselves realizing how powerful human touch can be. Ten years ago massage seemed like an indulgence to many people, yet new research reveals that massage keeps us in a healthy and happy living condition. Massage is not a luxury. Massage is a way of keeping your life in balance; a very simple, enjoyable, and positive method to keeping your entire experience a happy and healthy one.
